Alex Nord talked at the 4th Annual Molecular Psychiatry meeting, from October 6th – October 9th, and Ph.D. student Linda Su-Feher presented a poster, both on our work understanding the role of chromatin remodeling in autism. Snorkeling may have been involved. Meeting info: https://www.molecularpsychiatry.net/past-meetings/4th-annual-molecular-psychiatry-meeting/

New paper in Neuron on using enhancers to study brain development. Congrats to Shanni Silberberg and John Rubenstein who led the work. We contributed to the genomic analysis of brain enhancers. Read more: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27710791
Nord Lab contributes to a study identifying genetic loci that impact myocardial mass. We contributed to analysis showing that common genetic variants impact heart enhancers. Read more: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27659466
New paper on the role of NKX2.1 in GABAergic neuron specification. In this collaboration between the Nord Lab and the lab of John Rubenstein at UCSF, Alex Nord was co-corresponding author and Ph.D. student Linda Su-Feher contributed to the work. Read more: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27657450
First NIH grant for the Nord Lab! We received an NIGMS R35 MIRA award to study the sequence-encoded function of enhancers. Read more about the MIRA R35 program: https://www.nigms.nih.gov/research/mechanisms/MIRA/pages/default.aspx
First Annual Nord Lab Retreat at Bodega Bay, CA. Highlights included hikes and beach time, learning about marine creatures, and eating marine creatures. Science was also discussed.
Alex Nord is named a Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI) Investigator. The Nord Lab will be studying the functional impact of non-coding de novo mutations identified in autism cases. Read more: https://sfari.org/author/?author=https://id.simonsfoundation.org/alexnord
Nord Lab led by Alex Mawla Contributes to New Publication Highlighting Mutations that Cause Deafness
The Nord Lab, led by former lab undergraduate Alex Mawla, contributes to a new publication on mutations that cause deafness worldwide. Read more: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/27344577
Lab undergraduate Shreya Louis graduates! Congrats to Shreya, who volunteered in the Nord Lab for two years and contributed to both bench and computational work.
Congrats to Ph.D. student Ayanna Wade for being awarded a spot on the Molecular and Cellular Biology NIH T32 training grant! Ayanna will be investigating the role of chromatin remodeling in synapse development and function.
